He develops both repetitive and ecstatic structures, constructed and luminous melodies, and quasi-improvised free forms; All bordering on an inner journey beyond reality. Kathy Ashford has a modern, youthful take on the Folk tradition. With a hauntingly soft voice reminiscent of Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention, Kathy often plays with Winchester’s own Blacksmith Band but her solo performances are known for a quiet beauty which often belies the dark lyrical tales of a bygone time.
